Library redesigns Web site
The Des Plaines Public Library's Web site has a fresh look these days meant to make finding information easier and more efficient for visitors. Karen McBride, Web Services librarian, spearheaded the overhaul, which can be seen at dppl.org. As the site grew in size, McBride said the home page became difficult to organize and the site wasn't as user-friendly. "More and more people use our Web site as a 'virtual branch' of the library, and those users deserve the same friendly welcome and high level of service that they would find if they walked into the building," she said. For example, the children's section now includes animation and graphics. Among other changes, events listings have been improved and a blog has been added.
