Fishing derby

Mundelein officials will host an annual fishing derby for kids Saturday at the Mundelein Senior Center, 1200 Regent Drive. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is open to kids 13 or younger. Participants should bring their own fishing poles. A free lunch and raffle will be offered.

Soil testing

The Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a soil testing program. Homeowners can bring their garden, lawn or flower bed soil in and the district will test the Ph, potassium and phosphorous along with other tests as needed. The cost of each soil test is $20. Sample collection bags and instructions are provided. Results will be made available within 10 days and will come with general recommendations on how to remediate the soil. Ryg open house

State Rep. Kathy Ryg will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at her district office, 50 Lakewood Parkway, No. 114, Vernon Hills. The Vernon Hills Democrat said she uses feedback when considering issues that come before the House.
