Canoe race open for registration

Registration has begun for the MidAmerican Canoe and Kayak Race, which will be run Sept. 28 on the Fox River between St. Charles and Aurora.

The 47th running of this popular race is open to paddlers of all ages and abilities. There will be one racing hull division, nine cruising hull divisions and four kayak divisions.

Registration is $25 per person or $50 per two-person team. The field is limited to 1,000 canoes/kayaks.

The 15-mile race will begin at Mount St. Mary Park in St. Charles and finish at McCullough Park in Aurora. Heats will be launched in groups of 10 crafts at four-minute intervals beginning at 8 a.m.

Registration includes complimentary food and beverages, goodie bag, T-shirt and discount coupons from local merchants. Awards are given in each division, with plaques to the top three finishers in race. Free shuttle service will be available.
