Burglary suspect charged with murder

A Cook County judge has ordered a Chicago man held in lieu of $1 million bond for allegedly fleeing a burglary in a vehicle that killed a 78-year-old woman in a crash.

The bond was set Sunday for 23-year-old Byron Brown, who is charged with first-degree murder and residential burglary.

Authorities said Brown was one of three men in a sport-utility vehicle that struck Tommye Freeman's vehicle Thursday on the city's South Side.

Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Aaron Bond says Brown and another man had just burglarized a residence when they joined a third man in a the SUV and sped away.
