The great debate over Social Security
Thanks to Winfield Green for forwarding the debate over Social Security (Fence Post, June 22).
The age-old question has been, should it go on as is, or should it be privatized?
Would you rely on the current system if you had to get into it now, or would you rather have a private account, the equivalent of another 401(k) with investments in various funds?
Since you have a 401(k) and are "living comfortably" off your investments, I gather you understand the benefit of investing.
You probably also know that at no time in history has the stock market ever gone down in any 20-year-long period. In other words, as long as the stock market has existed, you could not lose money if you stayed in it over time.
But even knowing this, it has always been the Democrats who scare people away from private accounts, and lock them into the current system which is headed toward collapse.
Most young people today don't even expect to get anything back from Social Security.
And the smart ones would wisely choose a private account.
