Semi truck goes off road in Hampshire
A truck driver was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin Friday after his he drove his semi truck off Interstate 90 and into two trees, police said.
The driver was not seriously hurt, police said.
"He wasn't incapacitated," said Master Sgt. Bob Meeder with District 15 of the Illinois State Police. "There's no life-threatening injuries."
Police did not release the driver's name.
Police cited the driver for driving while fatigued.
"We're not sure exactly what happened, but he wasn't feeling well," Meeder said. "He was ill."
The incident happened just after 7 a.m. at the 40.5 mile marker on the Northwest Tollway in Hampshire, firefighters said.
The truck was eastbound when it left the road and hit two small trees, taking a big chunk out of both before coming to a stop, according to Lt. Brian Marlowe of the Hampshire Fire Protection District.
It was not clear how badly the truck was damaged, but Marlowe said the front end was slightly damaged, while the undercarriage probably sustained more serious damage when the truck left the road.
