Hanover Township is seeking both adult and high school-age residents to serve on its Committee on Youth, which is charged with advising the township board on programs to combat and prevent juvenile delinquency and meet the needs of local youth. Trail 12K race in Palatine
Registration is open for the Xterra Xtreme 12K run on Aug. 9. The race will lead runners over the twisting trails of Palatine's Deer Grove Forest Preserve. It's the final of three events in the 2008 Xterra Chicago Trail Run Series. The race, which starts at 8 a.m., will be capped at 200 runners. The cost is $30. Register at chicagotrailseries.com.
Music Man cast to help flood victims
The cast, crew and staff of The Music Man, which is being put on by the Buffalo Grove Park District Performing Arts center to help celebrate the village's 50th anniversary, will be raising funds for flood victims in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. The actors will return to the stage after bows and invite patrons to donate as they leave the theater. The money will go to Neighbors in Need 2008.
