It's unlikely Seals will ever move

In 2006, when Dan Seals was first running for Congress, he ran into a little problem: He didn't live in the district that he wanted to represent.

He claimed that if he won election, he would move into the 10th District. Melissa Bean made that same promise in 2004 and never followed up on it even though she won. The people of the 10th District weren't fooled and Dan lost.

Now here we are in 2008 and Dan is trying a new story.

In an interview when he was asked about his continued refusal to move into the district he wants to represent, he said "If I was a millionaire, I could certainly just pick up and buy a new home, [but] I'm not a millionaire."

Leaving alone his laughable assumption that everyone in the district is a millionaire, the salary for a congressman is $169,000 a year.

So even if he does get elected, if we take Dan's own words at face value, he still wouldn't move into the district. After all, he wouldn't be a millionaire.

I understand Dan's desire to explain away his residency, or lack thereof. Historically voters are not kind to carpetbaggers.

But he's been running for Congress for three years now, more than ample time to move into the district.

The fact that he's failed to do so either demonstrates a political tin ear, or a lack of respect for his prospective constituents. I want neither in my congressman.
