Go-cart strikes woman watching 4th of July parade
Police in northwest suburban Niles say a 64-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after she was struck by a go-cart while watching a Fourth of July parade.
Authorities say the go-cart driver had been steering circles for 45 minutes on the parade route Friday when the cart veered off the street. The cart struck two 9-year-old girls before hitting a 33-year-old man and the 64-year-old woman.
Police say Niles Fire Department paramedics marching in the parade helped the woman, who was taken to Luther General Hospital in Park Ridge to be treated for bruises. The other victims reported minor scratches and refused treatment.
Authorities did not charge the go-cart driver and say they believe the accident was caused by mechanical problems.
