Briefs: Children's art show
Artwork by St. Charles School District 303 students is on display through July at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. The Imagination Student Art Show exhibit is on display throughout the library and features pieces from all grade levels. A public open house to honor the artists is planned for 2 to 3 p.m. July 19. Call (630) 584-0076.
Register for Freedom Run
The Greater St. Charles Education Foundation will have its 2nd annual Great Western Freedom 4 competitive run at 8 a.m. Friday. The race starts at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve along Dean Street, just west of Randall Road, and follows the Great Western Trail. Advance registration can be done at www.signmeup.com or in person at Dick Pond Athletics, 303 N. Second St., for $20. On-site registration Friday is $25. A $2 discount is offered to members of the Chicago Area Runners Association and the Fox River Trail Runners. Proceeds benefit programs at St. Charles School District 303. Reception for Carlson
A reception for outgoing Kane County Board member Jan Carlson is planned for July 8, following the board's 9:45 a.m. meeting at the county government center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. Carlson, of Elburn, served on the county board for 11 years before losing his seat in the Feb. 5 election to Drew Frasz of LaFox.
Kids golf tournament
The 2008 St. Charles Little Guys and Gals Golf Tournament is scheduled July 15 and 16 at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave. The competition, sponsored by Klinkey Heating and Sheet Metal, is open to children 11 and younger who have a St. Charles mailing address, live in the St. Charles Park District or have a season park pass. The deadline to register is 8 p.m. July 12. The entry fee is $24. Call (630) 584-8356.
Green Market aid
The Geneva Green Market, a market featuring locally grown and minimally processed produce, is seeking volunteers to help one day a week through the end of October. Responsibilities will vary from handing out fliers to manning the Geneva Green Market booth to directing visitors to the vendors. Contact Karen Stark at karcryo@mac.com.
