Two men charged in Arlington Heights robbery, police say

Arrest warrants have been issued for two Chicago men police say robbed a woman at gunpoint April 29 in downtown Arlington Heights.

Both men are in jail for other unrelated offenses but have a court appearance in Rolling Meadows on July 29 on the armed robbery charges, Sgt. Tom Seleski of the Arlington Heights Police Department said Tuesday. A 52-year-old Kildeer woman was leaving a restaurant at 25 W. Davis St. when the two men - one with a handgun - approached her and demanded her purse around 11:20 p.m., according to police reports. The woman convinced them to take her cash instead of her purse, and handed over $300 and a cell phone. She then drove to the police station to report the crime, according to police.

The day after the robbery, a resident called with information about a suspicious car in the area at the time of the robbery. Arlington Heights police worked with Chicago police to track down Chicago residents Deangelo Jones, 22, and Charles K. Munyi, 21, Seleski said.

"After we heard about the suspicious vehicle, we started following that lead," he said. "The Chicago police were a tremendous help chasing down the addresses."

Arrest warrants charging Jones and Munyi with armed robbery were issued on June 30.

Munyi is being held by the Cook County Department of Corrections and Jones by the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The woman's money and cell phone weren't recovered, Seleski said.
