Independence Day the Glen Ellyn Way

It's time for one of Glen Ellyn's favorite hometown traditions - the Fourth of July Celebration. There's a whole day of activities organized by the Fourth of July Committee. Here's a look at what's planned.

Freedom Four Run

The annual Freedom Four Run will begin at 8 a.m. at Glenbard West's Duchon Football Field. Volunteers are needed to help with the event. Call the Glen Ellyn Park District at (630) 858-2462 to register or to volunteer.

Parade

The parade will begin east of Glenbard West High School, on Crescent Boulevard at Lake Road. From there, it will proceed west on Crescent to Main Street, north to Linden Avenue, and finally, east to Lake Ellyn. The grand marshal is Glen Ellyn native and architect Jerry Perkins. He was honored this spring by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society when he received the first Glen Ellyn Legend Award. Here's a quick look at the day's events.

Lake Ellyn festivities

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Glen Ellyn Park District will offer family fun and food at Lake Ellyn Park, along with music by "1969" and a Ten Penny Carnival. Participants may purchase a $2 wristband to enjoy all the action at Lake Ellyn.

Fireworks

The fireworks will be at Lake Ellyn Park at dusk. Residents are reminded that no blankets are allowed on the grounds of Lake Ellyn Park until the park opens on July 4 at 6 a.m. Also, please do not use rocks, bricks or stakes to hold blankets down. In addition, blankets should not be laid on landscape plants.
