City destroyed one of area's wonders
How would you feel if someone entered an art museum and threw acid on a Rembrandt masterpiece, destroying it? Hopefully you would feel appalled, even violated, and so it is with the masterpiece called the Old Plum Grove Woodlands.
One of the charming things that has added to the beauty of the OPGW has been the road that winds gracefully through it. The curves were not severe or dangerous, they were, in fact, gentle and engaging and lined with huge trees.
The Old Plum Grove is one of the four groves left in northern Cook County and it has a history that goes back to the settlement of the Pottawatomi Indians in the late 1600s and early 1700s.
But does Rolling Meadows care about preserving the beauty of this territory? Drive west on the Old Plum Grove Road and see the mutilation and destruction.
Thank God Rolling Meadows does not have any say so over the Deer Grove (forest preserve), the road through it is nothing but curves!
