Woman killed by freight train in Berwyn

A spokesman for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad says a woman using a walker was struck and killed by a Union Pacific freight train using one of the other railroad's line.

Railroad spokesman Steve Forsberg says the accident occurred Sunday afternoon at the Oak Park Avenue crossing in Berwyn.

Forsberg says the flashers and gates at the intersection were working at the time.

Berwyn police are investigating, but had no comment Sunday night.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not released the woman's name as of late Sunday night.

The incident delayed Metra commuter trains through Berwyn by about 30 minutes.
