Elk Grove man charged with solicitation of minor in McHenry Co.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old Elk Grove man on charges he attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl he had been conversing with on line.
Daniel S. Urban faces two counts of indecent solicitation of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, all felonies, stemming from an investigation that ended with his arrest Friday afternoon in the McHenry County town of Wonder Lake.
Wonder Lake police Chief David Mahlke said officers arrested Urban when he showed up for what he thought was a meeting with a 13-year-old girl.
In reality, police said, the girl was a member of the national organization Perverted Justice, a Portland, Ore.-based group that targets adults who use the Internet to set up sexual encounters with minors.
It is the second time in a little over a month Wonder Lake police and Perverted Justice have worked together to arrest a suspected Internet predator. Last month police arrested a 21-year-old Tower Lakes man on similar charges after he appeared at a Wonder Lake home for what authorities say he believed would be a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl, authorities have said.
Urban, who is free on $2,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. If convicted of the charges, he could face a maximum five years in prison.
