Fire, Earthquakes play to scoreless tie
San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon saved three late attempts, and the Earthquakes and Chicago Fire played to a scoreless draw on Saturday.
San Jose nearly broke through in the 51st minute when Ramiro Corrales blasted a free kick off the crossbar, sending it bouncing back into play.
Justin Mapp, Chris Rolfe and Bakary Soumare then had late attempts for the Fire that were stopped by Cannon.
The draw lets Chicago (6-5-2, 20 points) snap its losing streak, but the Fire haven't won since May 25, a 5-1 victory at New York. The Fire also haven't scored a goal since June 7, during a 2-1 loss to DC United.
San Jose (3-8-3, 12 points) also moved back into the points column.
