Credit Union plans free shredding event

ELGIN - Corporate America Credit Union is hosting a Shred Day today to offer the community an opportunity to shred unwanted documents for free, and discover how to protect themselves from identity theft. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Corporate America branch office in Elgin at 2075 Big Timber Road. The Federal Trade Commission estimated that 9 million Americans are victims of identity theft each year. Residents are encouraged to bring any sensitive papers they would like to discard safely, such as receipts, invoices and financial statements.
