Memories of Orwell's '1984'
When I read the response of White House spokesman Tony Fratto in a recent edition of the Herald about Scott McClellan's testimony, I couldn't help but think about George Orwell and "1984." Fratto states, "I think Scott has probably told everyone everything he doesn't know, so I don't know if anyone should expect him to say anything new today." Is this the clarity of mind in this administration's Ministry of Truth that brings us "War is Peace?" Where are those who remember Orwell's warnings? Obviously, they don't breathe in the present administration. Maybe the people in the administration only found time to read the Cliff Notes' take on "1984" -- but that's so 1980s, and why worry about something so long ago? Next: "Ignorance is Strength."
But I suspect that has been the slogan all along.
