U-46 earns top quality management honor

Elgin Area School District U-46 earned a top honor this week, receiving quality management certification from the International Organization for Standardization.

According to a Thursday news release, U-46 is the only Illinois school district known to receive this certification.

In an independent review, U-46 was found to conform to international quality management system standards in a variety of areas including food and nutrition, human resources, information systems, transportation and safety and security.

The certification process was initially developed for use in the business sector.

It has recently become popular in other industries as a way of promoting improvement.

Interim Superintendent Mary Jayne Broncato called the certificate "a very meaningful accomplishment for our district and its employees."
