21 hospitalized, 45 hurt after Montgomery chemical leak

Twenty-one people were hospitalized and 45 treated on scene after a chemical spill late Wednesday night in Montgomery.

A 275-gallon plastic container at Yellow Transportation, 2100 Rochester Drive, leaked 30 to 40 gallons of high concentration hydrogen peroxide, according to a release issued by the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District.

The hydrogen peroxide mixed with other materials in the area and produced fumes.

The spill and the fumes were contained inside the building and employees were evacuated.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 10:22 p.m.

The incident resulted in the mobilization of a hazardous materials team that includes members of the Aurora, Sugar Grove, North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva and Elburn fire departments.
