Cougars' offense struggles

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Corey Brown put Kane County ahead 1-0 in the first inning Wednesday night.

But the Cougars never scored again, falling 6-1 to the Quad Cities River Bandits in front of 2,627 at Modern Woodmen Park.

The Cougars had 10 hits but stranded 10 runners, and starter Scott Deal struggled on the mound.

Brown singled home Michael Richard against Brian Broderick (3-5) right away, but the Bandits countered with 2 in the bottom half against Deal (5-3) and never looked back.

Deal, who had won his last 2 outings, gave up 6 runs on a season-high 11 hits, walked one and struck out six over 6 innings in the loss.

The Cougars went 1-2-3 just once - in the second - but failed to capitalize on their many chances. They left one man on base six times and two runners on base twice. Brown, Richard and Dante Love each had 2 hits, and Adam Klein, Larry Cobb, Todd Johnson and Justin Frash had 1.
