Mystery of the missing tire swings

No, there hasn't been a rash of tire swing thefts in Arlington Heights.

There's been a recall.

Tire swings were removed from Berbecker, Centennial, Flentie, Hasbrook, Heritage, and Patriots parks until the appropriate replacement can be made by the manufacturer, according to the Arlington Heights Park District's Web site.

Those replacements should be in by the end of July.

Wait, these tires weren't good enough to be used as swings?

Weren't they supposed to be on cars?

Sick bookmobile: First the tire swings and now this - you call this summer? The Arlington Heights bookmobile is out of services as of Monday.

Items that are due during that time may be returned to the library. No late fees will be charged for items that are due while the bookmobile is being repaired.

Projects in the works: Here's some projects the planning office is looking at this month. All of these projects are still being discussed; no final vote has been taken:

A restaurant for the northeast corner of Rohlwing Road and Euclid Avenue. This highly visible corner is right next to the Sheraton and close to Arlington Park.

Enterprise Rental car at 215 S. Arlington Heights Road.

National City Bank at 19-25 Golf Road.

T- Mobile Antennas at Lake Arlington.

Hospital garage open: The new, seven-story parking garage at Northwest Community Hospital opened this week. The visitor garage is on the east side of the hospital's campus near the Day Surgery Center. It's accessible from both Kirchoff and Central roads.

The garage is part of Northwest's $250 million expansion project that will feature 200 private patient rooms by early 2010. The new building, which faces Central Road, will also have a 24-bed critical care unit, labor and delivery area and postpartum unit. The first floor will accommodate a major expansion of the existing emergency department.
