Lawsuit settled in 2006 Stroger Hospital beating

An elderly stroke victim and Cook County have settled a lawsuit stemming from an attack on the man by Stroger Hospital security officers.

In the lawsuit, 78-year-old Agustin Sotomayor claimed he was dragged from his car by hospital police in September 2006 while he was parked outside the hospital complex waiting for his wife.

In the settlement, Sotomayer will receive a $425,000 from the Cook County government.

Officers William Moman, Remoh Robert and Kelly Burgess were named in the lawsuit. They were accused of beating Sotomayor and of ripping a camera away from a county employee who captured it all.

He says the officers accused him of being an illegal immigrant and made other verbal attacks.

In a turnabout, Sotomayor is being sued by Robert, who says his reputation was tarnished after the incident.
