Concert series back with military tribute

It's Thursday, which is music to the ears of Antioch residents.

The village's third annual "It's Thursday" concert series begins tonight with a tribute to the military.

"Salute to the Troops," featuring the Lakes Area Community Band and the Antioch Community Chorus begins at 7:30 p.m. at the William E. Brook Memorial Entertainment Center, 902 Skidmore Drive.

"The Salute to the Troops will be one of the highlights because of what it represents," said Shawn Roby, special events supervisor for the village.

The seven-concert series is one of the hallmark summer events for downtown Antioch and is sponsored by the village and community businesses, many of which stay open later on Thursdays.

Roby said the shows normally attract about 900 people.

"It's a lot like the concerts in the park in downtown Chicago," Roby said. "Only in these economic times, it's nice to stay close to home."
