Karaoke contest not judged fairly

I feel it is my duty to inform the general public about a serious injustice that occurred last weekend in my old hometown of Grayslake.

The Last Chance Saloon held its grand finale to their "amateur karaoke contest." I use the term "amateur" loosely here as at least one of the 12 finalists is a veteran performer and has been singing professionally for 15 years that I know of. This has been a lengthy and grueling process for these contestants, very much on the level of the popular "American Idol" series.

Michele Suris gave a flawless rendition of the angst-filled "What's Up" by the 4 Non-Blondes that brought down the house. Her first entry was "Criminal" by Fiona Apple. I thought to myself, what appropriate choices considering the outcome of this shameful excuse for a fair fight.

To my chagrin Michele's name was not among the top 3. Winners #2 and 3 received mediocre applause to their chosen artists. Their performances contained many errors, even (I am cringing at the memory here) off key notes. I find it incredulous that the judges would not take into consideration audience reaction as part of their overall tally.
