Hemmens primed for a great year
If you think the Chicago Cubs have a great lineup, you probably haven't seen the roster for the upcoming year at the Hemmens Cultural Center.
A cirque-style show called the "Birdhouse Factory," the political satire group, "Capitol Steps," '80s rockers The Tubes and the Cab Calloway Orchestra are just few of the acts to visit the Elgin facility beginning in September.
"We've got a little bit of a lot," said Bill Folk, Hemmens program director. "We have 17 shows coming in."
Other highlights include the Glenn Miller Orchestra, which sold out the last time it was at the Hemmens, along with Ira Glass, the producer of the radio program "This American Life," which has been adapted to TV on Showtime.
Tickets for all shows go on sale at 10 a.m. July 8.
Residents may request a brochure by calling the box office at (847) 931-5900.
Orders will be taken over the phone on a 24-hour charge-it line at (847) 931-5900, by fax at (847) 931-6007, or online at www.hemmens.org or in person through the box office at 45 Symphony Way.
Folk said online is the best way to go for July 8 and a few days after.
"It's your best bet to get your reservation in for the best seats possible as quickly as possible," he said, explaining that while an order is processed by the Hemmens staff, additional seats could be snapped up by others on-line.
Ticket orders for three or four shows will receive a 10 percent discount. Orders for five or more shows earn a 15 percent discount.
The trade-off is that discounts are not applicable for online orders.
