Briefs: Health site to expand

The lowest responsible bid for a long-sought expansion of the Lake County Health Department's campus on Grand Avenue in Waukegan is about $19.7 million. Construction involves two new buildings and the demolition of five others. The existing administration center, a former hospital, would be torn down and replaced in a move to consolidate community and behavioral health facilities. The bid from A.J. Maggio Construction will be discussed in separate meetings Wednesday by the county's financial and administration committee and by the Lake County Board of Health.

Candidate back on ballot

Democratic Lake County board candidate Davita Siegel of Buffalo Grove will return to the Nov. 4 ballot. Siegel seeks to topple Republican county board member David Solman in District 20. A judge reversed the findings of the Lake County electoral board Monday to place Siegel back on the ballot. Siegel was one of four Democrats who were yanked from the ballot by the electoral board. In Siegel's case, the board voted to remove her from the ballot because nominating papers listed an incorrect date for when the candidate was slated for election. However, attorney Christopher Kennedy filed an appeal on Siegel's behalf in Lake County circuit court. Circuit Judge Raymond McKoski ruled that Siegel should be returned to the ballot, in part because the wrong date on the nominating papers was inadvertent. McKoski's order was entered Monday. Lake County Clerk Willard Helander, Chief Deputy State's Attorney Meg Marcouiller and Circuit Court Clerk Sally Coffelt served on the electoral board.
