Duo charged with art theft
Authorities say two Chicago women were arrested after they tried to steal nearly $600,000 worth of art from a storage locker.
Sixty-one-year-old Michele Vasarhelyi and 31-year-old Vera Mamalat were ordered to be held Sunday on on $125,000 bond for the Friday incident.
Assistant State's Attorney Bonnie Greenstein says the two cut a lock on a storage unit and moved the art to a neighboring locker they rented.
A lawyer for one of the women says the locker belonged to an art dealer who was involved in a dispute with his client's dead husband and father.
Both women have European citizenship.
