'Green Eggs and Ham' heading for Naperville
Naperville will be doubling its dose of Dr. Seuss next year.
The city council has approved a "Green Eggs and Ham" theme for the 2009 Century Walk sculpture that likely will be installed at the 95th Street Library.
Century Walk Corp. already has placed 31 pieces of art around the city since 1996, including a "Cat in the Hat" sculpture at the downtown Nichols Library that councilmen said has been well received.
"The times I've happened to be at the library … there's not a child that goes by that (sculpture) that doesn't touch it or comment on it," Councilman James Boyajian said. "I think it would be a great addition to have that at our 95th Street Library."
Century Walk Corp., headed by President Brand Bobosky, also is working on the details of its most immediate piece, a sculpture of Harold and Margaret Moser. Harold Moser was a prominent developer and philanthropist who earned the nickname "Mr. Naperville."
Bobosky has asked the council to approve placing the sculpture at Moser Tower, which houses the Millennium Carillon at the foot of Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk.
The council will vote on the sculpture's placement next month after the Riverwalk Commission, Millennium Carillon Foundation and Naperville Park District have had a chance to weigh in on an exact location.
The city has allocated $274,000 from its Special Events and Cultural Amenities Fund this fiscal year for Century Walk but reserves the right to have a say in the pieces and their location.
