Grateful pet store owner gives $1,000 donation to canine unit

The owners of a Naperville pet store are donating $1,000 to the police department's canine unit to thank investigators for their "dogged" pursuit of a trio of puppy thieves.

Petland Naperville owners Adam Stachowiak and Mike Isaac said the check is a "token of gratitude" to the department for identifying the suspects in the theft. Two store employees were among the three charged.

The store matched donations contributed by customers and employees.

Two suspects -- Karlie Pellock and Emanuel Lopez -- have already pleaded guilty to the crime for their part in the ill-conceived caper that was caught on store surveillance camera.

The case against Anais M. Marquez is still pending. Marquez and Pellock were store employees who police said conspired with Lopez, who physically stole the Pomeranian puppy. Lopez is due to be sentenced July 2. Pellock received probation and community service.

The three are 19 years old and live in Plainfield.

The 2-month-old purloined pooch was returned three days later after word spread about the dog-napping. The $1,500 pup has since been adopted.
