Glitch sends toll fines north

Some Wisconsin drivers have a reason to be honking mad at Illinois. A glitch in the Illinois tollway system's enforcement efforts resulted in an unknown number of Wisconsin drivers incorrectly being fined by their neighbor state to the south. Officials at the Wisconsin Bureau of Vehicle Services knew something was up when complaint calls went from zero to about 15 a day in the past two months. Illinois tollway spokeswoman Joelle McGinnis says a glitch that led to some Wisconsin vehicles being misidentified was corrected earlier this month. She says she does not know how many incorrect fine notices were sent. McGinnis encourages drivers affected to contact the tollway number to get help.
