Man dies in boat accident

A Lake County man is dead after a boat accident Tuesday evening in northeastern Minnesota. The St. Louis County sheriff's office says 55-year-old Dennis Ronald Nykiel of Park City was a passenger in a boat that apparently struck an underwater rock on Jeanette Lake. Nykiel was thrown from the boat. Attempts to revive him failed. He was wearing a life jacket. The boat was driven by 56-year-old Raymond Schmidt Jr. of Mendota, Ill. The accident happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday off the Echo trail, about 35 miles northeast of Orr, Minn.
