Libertyville motorcyclist killed in crash
A Libertyville motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning following a multi-vehicle accident near the village, authorities said.
Stephen C. Amer, 36, suffered severe head injuries and broken bones in the accident, which occurred about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at Route 176 and St. Mary's Road, police said.
He was flown by emergency helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, but could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Three other vehicles were involved in the crash. One person was hurt but survived, police said.
Amer was headed east on Route 176 on a 2004 Harley-Davidson when he collided with a 1999 Toyota Camry that was turning from westbound Route 176 onto southbound St. Mary's Road, Lake County sheriff's police said.
Amer was thrown from the motorcycle, according to police reports.
The Camry then hit 2005 Buick LeSabre and a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox that were stopped in the northbound lanes of St. Mary's Road, police said.
The driver of the Camry was identified as Nitaben G. Patel, 41, of Liberal, Kansas. He was examined by paramedics at the scene and released, reports said.
The driver of the LeSabre was identified as Ruth E. Baker, 65, of 2307 Aspen Drive, Woodstock. She was examined at the scene and released.
The driver of the Equinox was identified as Johnny L. Lambert, 59, of 3081 Midlane Drive, Wadsworth. He was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Lambert's medical condition was not available Wednesday.
No tickets were issued after the crash, which remained under investigation.
