Briefs: Expect construction delays
Intersection improvements will cause traffic delays and lane closures on Orchard Road at Rochester Drive in Montgomery starting Monday. The Kane County Division of Transportation announced construction will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day and will be complete in early September. The project will add new traffic signals and is expected to alleviate congestion and improve safety at the intersection.
Fundraising tops $90,000
Fundraising for the Riverwalk Bandshell in Batavia has topped $90,000, volunteers announced Wednesday. The group made a goal to raise $100,000 in 100 days to break ground and is a few weeks away from that deadline. The total project is expected to cost $270,000. Swedish influence
A new Geneva History Center exhibit, "Swedish, Swedish, Swedish!!!", shows elements of Geneva's Swedish heritage that are either found in the History Center's Permanent Collection or placed on loan to the center for the special display. The exhibit runs through Swedish Days and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Terrorism video available
St. Charles police are loaning out copies of a video on terrorism awareness to local residents and community groups. The 10-minute public service video, "Homeland Security Begins at Home -- You Can Help," was a project of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, the Office of Homeland Security and the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. St. Charles garden tours
The Pottawatomie Garden Club of St. Charles will have a Grand Gardens by the Fox garden walk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28. The club's 80th anniversary event includes tours of six St. Charles gardens of various styles. Tickets are $18 the day of the walk or $15 in advance. Proceeds fund environmental college scholarships.
