Arlington Park fireworks on July 3

Fireworks will return to Arlington Park on July 3 along with the band "Four Man," which is taking the stage at 7:30 p.m.

With ample parking lots, concession stands and seats, a public address system and a Jumbotron screen, the park is better equipped to handle big crowds than most municipal parks, which is good because it draws some 40,000 people for the show.

The track offers unobstructed sight lines, but sit in the lower seats. If you go too high, the roof will block your view.

Fireworks go off at 9:30 p.m. on July 3 and run nearly 30 minutes at a cost of more than $1,000 a minute.

The track will close its gates after the last race on July 3 and reopen again at 7 p.m. for the fireworks.

Food and beverages will be on sale. There is no general admission charge although reserved seating is available for $5. Tickets are available for purchase now on www.arlingtonpark.com.

Watch out for home repair scam: Anyone who has a lot of tools, but isn't actually building or repairing anything should raise suspicion.

About 2 p.m. on Saturday, two men attempted to use a home repair ruse to gain entry into the home of an elderly couple near Euclid Avenue and Wilke Road. The couple realized what the men were up to and called the police, but the offenders fled the area. The two were described as having brown hair and olive complexions - one was 30 years old, average height and heavy set. The other man was 50 years old, short and thin.
