UIC names new chancellor
The dean of the University of Michigan's school of social work will become the new chancellor of the University of Illinois' Chicago campus next year.
Paula Allen-Meares is expected to take over in January after being selected chancellor Tuesday. The move still needs approval from the university's board of trustees, which is expected next month.
Allen-Meares has held her current job since 1993. Earlier, she was a dean of the school of social work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She says she plans to work closely the University of Illinois' other campuses.
University of Illinois President Joseph White called Allen-Meares a high-achieving leader.
Allen-Meares is from Buffalo, New York. She'll replace Sylvia Manning, who retired.
