Fox Theater offers free flicks

If you're looking for a cheap way to cool off with the kids this summer, you might want to head to Elgin's Fox Theater along Randall Road.

Every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer, except for July 2 and 3, the theater is showing kid-friendly films at 10 a.m. as part of its Kids Rule series. The features will begin today with "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

Admission to the films is $2.50 and includes complimentary size popcorn.

In addition to favorites that came out over the winter, such as "Horton Hears a Who", and "Bee Movie", the theater also will be showing first run films.

For example on Aug. 6 and 7, "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" will be featured.

For these showings, you can expect a little more noise than usual, so you might not want to go if you're headed out for a date.

But for the kids, the theater is hoping it will be a fun, cheap and entertaining morning, especially on rainy days when you're stuck inside.

The schedule for the films following "Alvin" includes "The Spiderwick Chronicles" on June 25 and 26, "Horton Hears A Who" on July 9 and 10, "Nim's Island" on July 16 and 17, "Bee Movie" on July 23 and 24, "Kung Fu Panda" on July 30 and 31, the Kit movie on Aug. 6 and 7, and finally "Space Chimps" on Aug. 13 and 14.
