Briefs: Award offered in vandalism
Lake County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 award for information that leads to the arrest of vandals that damaged 55 cars. The vandalism occurred some time between the evening of May 30 and May 31 at the Metra station lot, at 825 Commerce Court in Buffalo Grove. Toyotas owned by Arlington Toyota were stored at the lot. Someone or several people scratched them and damaged windshields. The damage is estimated at $75,000. Arlington Toyota is matching any reward that is given out by Crime Stoppers. District 62 seeks plan input
Des Plaines Elementary District 62 is holding its last community forum at 7 p.m. today on recommendations for its master plan. The meeting will be at Chippewa Middle School, 123 Eighth Ave., Des Plaines. Staff and community members have spent months studying the status of instructional and facility programs as well as how to house and educate the student population. The steering committee's recommendations are ready for review. At the forum, attendees can offer input on exit cards. Event promotes outdoors
The Vehe Foundation is hosting a special program Sunday designed to encourage kids to spend more unstructured time outside and in nature. The Leave No Child Inside event, scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m., will include presentations from Marty Kenahan, Leave No Child Inside's regional coordinator, pediatrician Everett Weiss, naturalist and writer April Anderson, Andrew Howard from the Hitchcock Design Group and the Rev. Zina Jacque from Community Church of Barrington. The free program is open to parents and children in the Barrington, Deer Park and Lake Zurich area, as well as area civic, business, education, recreation, developer and faith-based leaders.
