Man turns himself in on Carpentersville burglary charges

A man turned himself in to Carpentersville police when he learned he was wanted on a warrant for his participation in a March burglary.

Eric Eduardo Unzueta, 22, of 214 Harrison St., Carpentersville, was charged in court Monday with felony theft.

On March 25, a 41-year-old man invited two women to his home on the 900 block of Rosewood Drive in Carpentersville, and three men accompanied them.

After the five left about midnight, the homeowner found his locked bedroom had been entered through a connecting bathroom.

A 9 mm handgun and holster, a set of collector's knives, cameras, jewelry, a briefcase, an iPod, a wristwatch, a laptop computer and a cell phone had been stolen.

One of the women in the home that evening would not tell police who the three men were, but she offered to help them recover the handgun, police said.

Her telephone records were subpoenaed and, as a result, Unzueta's brother Ivan was arrested May 29, police said.

Ivan Unzueta gave police the name of his two accomplices, and Eric Unzueta was then identified by a witness in a photo lineup, police said.

Carpentersville police said they recovered the handgun, holster and briefcase in a hiding place near a park near the Unzueta home.

Eric Unzueta posted a $2,500 bond Monday morning and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 31 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
