Why are gasoline prices so high?
Why have gas prices gone up so far?
The simple fact is the demand for oil is increasing without a corresponding increase in supply.
It is easy to claim the problem lies in the lack of an energy policy from our government, but let us keep in mind that those energy policies have been derived from public opinion.
It is the public opinion that has repeatedly said, don't extract any oil since it may disturb nature.
This is the price we now have to pay.
It is the same public opinion that repeatedly said, don't build nuclear reactors.
However, with over 100 operating nuclear power plants in this country alone, we have never had a serious failure.
Nuclear power is safe, clean and could supply nearly all of our energy needs.
What would the price of gas be if the U.S. did not need to buy oil for electricity?
I would like to thank the vocal minority with the help of the journalists and Hollywood, whose uninformed opinions have helped stall any meaningful energy policy since the '70s.
If you want to find out about the safety of nuclear power, do not ask a movie star, journalist or therapist.
Ask someone who has studied the topic. Ask a professional engineer.
