Kirk is one of the best in the country

Dan Seals' letter of June 4, describing how surprised he was at the response to his gas giveaway demonstrates that he is either naive or lacks good judgment, or both. Neither trait speaks well for his attempt to become my congressman.

Seals seems to put the blame for high gas prices personally on Mark Kirk. Roughly 80 percent of the price increase has taken place in the last two years while the Democrats have had a significant majority in Congress. He should be blaming his own party instead. They have voted to prevent drilling and exploration both on-shore and off-shore in areas where major oil reserves are located.

We need increased supplies today. We can't wait 20-30 years for alternative sources to become viable. Some of the ideas in his letter also indicate his lack of understanding of the basic laws of economics.

It is Seals' Democratic colleagues who are also preventing use of clean, renewable energy. One senator had a bill passed to prevent off-shore windmill farms from being built so that he and his friends wouldn't have their view spoiled when they went sailing.

I am proud that Mark Kirk is my congressman. I consider him one of the very best in the entire country and he represents all the residents of his district, regardless of party affiliation. Dan Seals' gas stunt clearly shows he doesn't measure up to Congressman Kirk.
