Illinois must act to save marriage

The often quoted statement from George Santayana "those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" is relevant in the attempts today to destroy traditional marriage, the bedrock of family and society.

One only has to look at locations where this has already taken place.

California and Massachusetts had state laws defining marriage as one man, one woman.

Recently same-sex activists in both states found liberal judges who overturned the will of the people (in the case of California, over 4 million citizens).

This will happen in Illinois if we do not let our politicians in Springfield know we want to join with 29 other states who have enacted a Defense of Marriage Act within their state constitutions.

We now have the sad story of the Democratic Party jumping aboard the gay marriage train -- willing to change the very culture of America for the votes of a suddenly emboldened minority.

If marriage can now mean anything, then marriage means nothing. No society, ancient or modern, has ever sustained itself with a buffet-like mentality when it comes to marriage and family.

In Massachusetts, same-sex marriage has led to the homosexual lifestyle being taught in sex education classes as "a good lifestyle choice."

Catholic priests in Canada face hate crimes for citing the many biblical passages in the public debate over same sex marriage. A Saskatchewan man was fined for quoting the bible in a letter (such as mine) to the editor of the local paper. So much for the tolerance argument the homosexual activists have used so successfully to sell their agenda.

A gay legislator in Illinois has promised to introduce in the fall session a domestic partners act. This is what California and Massachusetts had before the mess they have created.

Is this what you want for your children in Illinois? Hopefully not.
