Des Plaines man fatally stabbed near his home

A Des Plaines man was stabbed to death on a street corner near his home early Saturday morning.

Israel Moreno, 21, of the 1300 block of Harding Ave., was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. from an apparent stabbing wound, a police statement said.

Police did not have a suspect in custody as of press time Saturday night.

"There appears to be some type of long-standing feud between Moreno and people who lived in the area," Des Plaines Police Chief Jim Prandini said. "We're working on leads from people who may have witnessed what was going on."

Police responded to the disturbance at the corner of Washington Street and Laurel Avenue at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, a police statement said.

Moreno was a known gang member and has a criminal history, Prandini said.

The Major Case Assistance Team has been activated to assist Des Plaines police investigators with the case.
