77,000 without power in northern Illinois

As Northern Illinois braces for another line of thunderstorms, utility crews are working to restore service to those left without power by a morning front.

ComEd says about 77,000 customers are without power Sunday afternoon. About 97,000 were left in the dark immediately after the early-morning storm.

About 19,000 customers remain without power in Chicago, which was among the hardest-hit area.

The morning storm system packed wind gusts of up to 65 miles per hour, which damaged the utility's power lines. ComEd spokeswoman Kim Johnson says a few lightning strikes affected lines as well.

National Weather Service meteorologist Casey Sullivan says the agency received reports of quarter-sized hail.
