Elmhurst baseball league dedicates tree to NIU shooting victim
A tree's being dedicated to one of the victims of the Northern Illinois University shootings.
The Elmhurst Baseball League was dedicating the tree Saturday in memory of Dan Parmenter, a 20-year-old from suburban Chicago who was one of the five students killed in the Valentine's Day attack.
Parmenter was a former Elmhurst resident who later moved to Westchester. He spent ten years playing and working as an umpire for the league.
He was a sophomore studying finance at the DeKalb university when 27-year-old gunman Steven Kazmierczak (kaz-MUR'-chehk) opened fire, injuring 18 others before committing suicide.
Elmhurst officials say Parmenter was a fair and competitive player who was compassionate, generous and loving off the field.
His girlfriend was among those injured.
