The Ministry of New Beginnings, part of the Phoenix Group, is a 31-year-old, Catholic-oriented, nondenominational social support organization for separated, divorced, widowed and single persons. The coed evening group of Community Bible Study, which meets in Mount Prospect, has opened its registration for the 2008-09 study year. A fee of $25 reserves a seat for adults in the class, offering area residents an opportunity for in-depth Bible study for more than 25 years.
Teaching Director Bob Kriskovich, a trained layman, has announced the course to be studied as "The Divided Kingdom," covering the Old Testament books of I and II Kings and the minor prophets. Community Bible Study, which is headquartered in Colorado Springs, offered the course for the first time during the 2007-08 study year.

The Adult Bible Fellowships at First Baptist Church of Arlington Heights are offering four practical Bible studies this summer. One of the series is a verse-by-verse study of the Old Testament books of Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon called "Under the Sun." Another of the Adult Bible Fellowships is taking a look at the biblical reasons behind the Baptist Distinctives. A third group of adults are discussing the topic of "hospitality" from Scriptures and the last of the four options is a continuation of lessons from the New Testament book of II Peter.

Religion, Media and Popular Culture: Adult Vacation Bible School Field Trip will be offered June 19 by First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights, 1903 E. Euclid Ave. A taping of the National Public Radio Show "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" will serve as an introduction to media and popular culture - as well as a fun evening with friends. Meet at church at 3:30 p.m. to depart for Rodity's Restaurant in Greek Town. After a family-style meal of Greek favorites, it is off to the Chase Theater for the taping of the show. Air-conditioned vans will return the group to church at about 10 p.m. Those who work in downtown Chicago are invited to meet us for dinner or the show and ride the van back home. Cost of the trip is $50 per person for transportation, dinner and a ticket to the show.
Also join other adults to consider some connections among religion, media and popular culture in a three-day series at the church.
On June 23 Dan Pawlus, host of "Thirty Good Minutes" on Channel 11's WTTW will discuss how topics and speakers are selected for a religious program. On June 24 "The Gospel According to The Simpson's" will be the topic. An open mind and a funny bone will come in handy during discussion of where to find faith in this long-running, animated sitcom. On June 25 "Taking the Me out of Media" is the topic that local author David Zimmerman will explore. Cost for the three evening presentations is $15.

Living Lord Lutheran Preschool will offer three separate summer camps. Lectures, seminars
The documentary film "King Corn" will be shown at 7 p.m. June 20 at Countryside Unitarian Universalist Church in Palatine. Cardinal Francis George, archbishop of Chicago, ordained eight laymen as permanent deacons May 25. The newly ordained deacons completed a four-year program at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. They will immediately begin serving in their home parishes in Cook and Lake counties.
More than 90 percent of deacons are married with families, and most are also engaged in outside occupations. They are clergy, along with priests and bishops, and often serve as a bridge between laity and priests.

Cross & Crown Church at Hintz and Rand roads in Arlington Heights is having its 2nd annual WorshipFest 2008 from noon to 10 p.m. July 26 to celebrate what God is doing in its ministries and to raise funds to support them.
Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the music. There will be various worship bands playing throughout the day as well as great food from area vendors and the C&C grill house. There will also be games and activities for children of all ages and great fellowship. Admittance is free. Donations and proceeds will be going to help the Ministry of Hope.
Cross & Crown began a ministry more than a year ago known as the Cross and Crown International Church Ministry of Hope, which seeks to help the under-resourced and homeless community in Arlington Heights and the surrounding area. On Saturdays they serve two full meals surrounding a service and fellowship beginning with set up at 8:30 a.m. and ending with fellowship after lunch until 2 p.m.
The ministry also supplies donated clothing, personal items and bicycles as well as financial assistance to individuals on a case-by-case basis.

July 15, 6:30 p.m.: Colleen Willard will speak on her experiences of remarkable healing at the famous apparition site of Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina. Colleen had suffered from an inoperable brain tumor that affected her pituitary gland and all her fine and gross motor skills. The Mayo Clinic and other specialists saw her in the last stages of cancer, in pain, on oxygen, but she traveled to Medjugorje to experience the holy place, and a visionary assisted in the healing. She is now tumor-free, tests are all normal and she is being considered at the Vatican as a recognizable miracle.
