Briefs: Assailant gets 23½ years

An Aurora man was sentenced Friday to 23½ years in prison for a 2005 murder attempt. Quentin C. Moore, 26, must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, handed down by Kane County Circuit Judge Patricia Piper Golden. A jury convicted Moore last year of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm stemming from a Nov. 22, 2005, gang shooting on Aurora's east side. Moore, of the 600 block of Sheridan Avenue, awaits trial on several other charges unrelated to the case.

Reception for sculptors

A public reception for the 2008 Sculptures in the Park series in St. Charles is set for 9 to 11 a.m. today at Mount St. Mary Park, on the west bank of the Fox River, south of Route 64. Visitors can meet the artists behind 16 sculptures in this year's exhibit, sponsored by the St. Charles Park District and the Downtown St. Charles Partnership.

Looking for reptiles

The Kane County Forest Preserve will host a Reptile Rendezvous nature walk from 10 to 11 a.m. June 22 at the Hampshire Forest Preserve. Naturalists will lead a walk looking for reptiles and give background on the animals and their habitat. The program is free but residents should register by calling (847) 741-8350. The forest preserve is located at 44W780 Allen Road in Hampshire.
