Closed I-57 lanes to reopen today
MONEE -- The Illinois Department of Transportation and ComEd say the last two lanes of Interstate 57 closed by a tornado last weekend will reopen early Friday.
ComEd originally estimated it could take several weeks to reopen all four lanes after a June Seventh tornado severely damaged five transmission towers and left seven spans of high-tension wire blocking the highway.
But ComEd said crews have worked around the clock since the damage occurred.
The area between the exits for Sauk Trail and Manhattan/Monee roads in Chicago's south suburbs were closed.
Repairs to the transmission lines and towers will continue for the next six weeks, and the speed limit in the affected area will be 45 miles per hour.
