Test the waters in a new relationship
I would say at least 99 percent of the people who go swimming test the waters before jumping in. Most of the time it's the foot that gets the dunk and swish, gauging either warm or cool temperature.
Testing the waters gives us the knowledge of what to expect before taking the plunge. Without that test you could get a shock to your system that may or may not be welcoming.
As you enter into a new relationship or partnership with one or a group of people, you need to test the waters. Just as you did before swimming, make sure the temperature is right and then proceed forward at a careful rate of speed that is accepting. This will make for a smoother transition and will keep you from that shocking plunge into the deep end.
