Elk Grove man starts Little Boots Rodeo
And they're off typically refers to horse racing in these parts.
But pigs will be the ones racing on June 22 at a new Elk Grove Village event.
Pig races will just be one of the events at the Little Boots Rodeo from noon to 5 p.m. June 22 at 901 Leicester Road.
A petting zoo, pony rides, wagon rides, and other games and activities will be offered. And both young people and adults will get a chance to test out their skills on a mechanical bull.
It's a new event that an Elk Grove Village resident invented and partnered with the park district to host.
"It's something that I've always wanted to do: a big event in Elk Grove for children," Jack Groat said.
While it's officially a park district program, Groat is picking up most of the tab.
For residents, it will cost $5, for those who live outside Elk Grove Village, $7. All attendees also must bring a nonperishable food item for the Elk Grove Food Pantry.
Some events will cost a little extra. Pony rides and wagon rides are $2. A ride on the mechanical bull will cost $5.
Proceeds will benefit the Elk Grove Parks Foundation scholarship program for at-risk children and the Sheila Ray Adult Center.
Groat wanted to bring pig races to town for an added entertainment factor.
"It's the funniest thing you've ever seen in your life," he said.
There is limited space available for the rodeo events, so people should register by calling (847) 437-9494, or at the Web site www.elkgroveparks.org.
Watch for Groat at Saturday's Rotary Fest parade in Elk Grove Village, where he will be passing out cowboy hats. The parade starts at 6 p.m. on Elk Grove Boulevard.
